Location: Sacramento, CA 

Are you passionate about preparing delicious and nutritious meals for others? At Legacy Oaks of Sacramento, we’re looking for a skilled Cook to join our culinary team and help provide a safe, appetizing dining experience for our residents.

As a Cook, you’ll work in a dynamic environment where your attention to detail and passion for food will contribute to the well-being of our residents. You’ll work under the direction of the Culinary Director and ensure that meals are prepared in compliance with dietary standards and resident preferences.

Position Summary:

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals in a safe, appetizing, and timely manner, adhering to all dietary policies and procedures. This role also includes maintaining kitchen cleanliness and assisting with inventory control.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare food items and serve meals to residents within the scheduled time frame.
  • Maintain clean and organized food service areas, including the kitchen and dining room.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory control and report any losses, breakage, or waste of supplies.
  • Support the Culinary Director by supervising Culinary Aides in their absence.
  • Ensure all resident diets are followed carefully and meals are tailored to their needs.
  • Accurately account for employee and resident guest meals each day.
  • Maintain the highest standards of kitchen cleanliness and ensure proper hygiene practices.
  • Communicate any dietary or kitchen-related issues to the Culinary Director.
  • Assist in training and guiding others in food preparation and serving as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Employment Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in preparing and serving a wide variety of food items.
  • Ability to guide and instruct others in food preparation and service.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
  • Must be neat, clean, and work safely.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Ability to spend long periods on your feet and lift 40-50 pounds regularly.
  • Must be free of untreated communicable diseases.
  • Consistently maintain a positive attendance record and follow community policies.

Other Requirements:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) certificate as required by the State.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications as required by the State.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprint clearance.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or meet state minimum age requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • State Criminal Background Check and LIC 508 Criminal Record Statement.
  • LIC 503 Health Screening Report.

Training and Experience:

  • Knowledge of food preparation rules, regulations, and safety practices.
  • ACTIVE Food Handlers Certificate
  • Experience in food preparation and serving, particularly in a long-term care facility or similar environment, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the dietary needs of the elderly population.
