Life Enrichment Director

Living Grace, located in Tracy, CA is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic Life Enrichment Director to help serve our wonderful residents and orchestrate our life enrichment program.

The purpose of the Life Enrichment Director is to organize, implement, and evaluate planned programs and events specifically appropriate to meet residents’ needs and interests. Their primary role is to manage all lifestyle programs, events, and oversee opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful opportunities to enhance their physical, social, emotional, vocational, spiritual and intellectual well-being. The goal of resident programs is to enhance residents’ living experience within their community, enhance their quality of life and promote their overall well-being. Provides and directs programs and events for residents to include development and implementation of programs and related professional in-services. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and Procedures within a particular field. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ensuring that compliance with all regulatory standards is maintained. The position also requires strong customer service, orientation, and critical thinking skills. Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creating and enhancing resident programs and activities using the company’s Whole-Person Wellness Program Model and the Seven Dimensions of Wellness to promote physical, intellectual, social, emotional, vocational, and spiritual stimulation and engagement of residents as well as interaction between residents and staff. 
  • Weekly meetings with HWD regarding programing, interventions and behavior modification strategies.
  • Develop a written plan of monthly programs and events. 
  • Plan and publish a monthly newsletter and calendar of events, weekly and daily schedule of events. Conduct scheduled programs in a timely and organized manner. 
  • Meet with the Director of Resident Care on a daily/weekly basis to communicate plans, highlights, special challenges, required support, etc. 
  • Coordinate all programs and equipment used. 
  • Train, schedule, and coach care team to keep them informed regarding programs/events and their role and responsibilities in leading assigned resident programs. 
  • Manage and maintain themed programming spaces, life skills areas and cue boxes for residents.
  • Participate in the annual budget process and monitor the monthly budget through tracking and spend down reports. 
  • Assess the need for additional resources, supplies, and equipment, and manage with the available budget. 
  • Responsible for the successful operation of the department in coordination with the Health and Wellness Director. 
  • Assesses Life History and Preferences for each resident; maintains Discovery Book; takes reports from staff and refers clinical issues to Health and Wellness Director for assessment and planning.
  • At morning standup, discusses residents who need to be looked at, staffing and programming issues.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of wellness objectives, standards of wellness practice, wellness policies and procedure manuals under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director.
  • Monitor and care for all equipment and supplies used by the programs department. Assess need for maintenance and repair of equipment and supplies, and secure needed service and payment for service. 
  • Obtain information through a formal new resident assessment concerning the residents’ background, lifestyle, and interests to better provide programs that meet their needs. 
  • Assess and update resident interests, needs and strengths and help set service plans accordingly.
  • Assess and develop specific resident outing plans, ensure transportation for outings are scheduled, and assist in planning and supervising such outings. Review and revise plan quarterly.
  • When possible, involve residents and/or family members in planning programs.
  • Participate in the assessment process and care planning as required by state regulation or company guidelines. 
  • Assure that 12 hours of programming is provided including evenings/weekends or per state guidelines.
  • encourage 1 outing per month is provided in both assisted living and memory care.
  • Coordinate special events with marketing. 
  • Coordinate in-house special events open to families and friends (holiday parties, theme, age events, etc).
  • Decorate community with monthly and seasonal themes. 
  • Maintain community photo albums or scrapbooks and post in the community
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident information and honor the residents’ personal property rights. 
  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers in the memory care program. 
  • Observe and report changes in resident’s functional status and report to the Health and Wellness Director and Care Team. 
  • Be familiar with community emergency procedures and be able to assist residents in case of emergency.

  • Develops plans, organizes, and implements resident activities in cooperation with appropriate resident support groups and facility departments.
  • Consults and works with other departments in developing appropriate activities as they relate to the physical, emotional, and social needs of the individual residents.
  • Coordinates resident activities and programs, which are sponsored by community groups.
  • Develops plans and coordinates Community volunteer program.
  • Purchases supplies and other material for the activity department, within budget.
  • Works closely with other departments to maximize the level of functioning for Community residents.
  • Maintains appropriate records of resident socialization.
  • Prepares and distributes a monthly activity schedule.
  • Plans and implements a monthly calendar.
  • Ensures activity areas are well maintained.
  • Assists with assessments, orientation, and marketing duties as requested.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of department needs.

Job Qualifications:

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred. 
  • Have a minimum of at least 1 years’ experience in providing planned programs in a setting for older adults or a comparable experience. 
  • Experience assessing resident needs and developing approaches to reduce discomfort / enhance daily well-being. 
  • Computer proficiency. It must be comfortable utilizing technology systems. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. 
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the public. 
  • Able to work independently. 
  • Must have reliable means of transportation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must be outgoing and energetic, with the ability to encourage and motivate residents and staff to attend and participate in programs; must possess the ability to get others excited and involved; must be calm, patient, caring, and compassionate in dealing with residents, family, and staff; must desire to work with seniors who have dementia in a senior housing environment and be strongly committed to their well-being; must be able to relate to and work with those with Alzheimer’s Disease, chronic illness, disabled, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the community. 

Must possess a good sense of efficiency and in successfully completing all work assignments; must be knowledgeable and supportive of the Community's philosophy and objectives; must be flexible and open to change; must be knowledgeable of current regulatory standards. May be required to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and overtime.

Working Environment

Works in well-lit/ventilated areas. Position may have exposure to Universal Precaution Risk Classification Category and may have exposure to other contagious illnesses. Also works within transportation program and outings from the community.

Other Requirements:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) certificate as required by the State.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications as required by the State.
  • Criminal Background check cleared.
  • Fingerprint clearance as required by the State.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or minimum age as outlined in state regulations.
  • Must be able to read, speak and write the English language.
  • State Criminal Background Check and LIC 508 Criminal Record Statement
  • LIC 503 Health Screening Report
  • Experience working with the elderly and appropriate activity interventions.
  • Knowledge of regulations affecting resident activities.
  • Ability to work with wide range of persons, access to community services.
  • Marketing skills.

Ability to lift 30 pounds routinely; Ability to ambulate residents safely.
