Medication Technician

Legacy Oaks of Sacramento Assisted Living and Memory Care, located in Sacramento, CA is seeking a dedicated and passionate Med Tech to provide high-quality care to the residents in our community.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to and conveys the philosophy of Assisted Living & Memory Care. Has awareness and practices in accordance with the regulations of the state.
  • Receives report from the previous shift and Med Tech.
  • Reads the Communication Log and Shower Schedule for information and changes at the beginning of each day. Documents in the Communication Log and Progress notes, as appropriate throughout the day on Alis.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living, environmental orientation, vital signs, first aid wound care, and communication with outside health care professionals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
  • Documents care given adhering to facility policies and procedures. Ensure all resident needs are met, even when it’s not a contracted service (on an addendum) notify the Executive Director and Health & Wellness Director of services rendered.
  • Maintains a clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors including housekeeping duties as assigned. Assures door is alarmed at all times, if needed.
  • Reports deficiencies observed in residents’ room to appropriate department supervisor and adds appropriate documentation on Alis. Completes Incident Report form as needed for any unusual occurrence.
  • Observes and communicates any changes in resident physical or mental status to the department supervisor along with appropriate documentation on Alis, to the Executive Director and Health & Wellness Director.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons, and other emergency procedures, follows facility policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plans.
  • Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment. Maintains a neat and orderly Medication Room.
  • Always wears name tag.
  • Assists residents moving in or out as directed.
  • Maintains current resident record for each resident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders, clarifying orders, and alert and monthly charting.
  • Orders, stores, and assistance with medications according to facility policy and procedures and current physician orders.
  • Maintains, transcribes, and documents in the Medication Assistance Record according to Policy and Procedure.
  • Maintains service plans. May participate in Service Plan reviews.
  • Supervises and monitors floor staff.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by any member of management.

  • Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor, tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to care used by the facility.
  • Keeps resident information confidential; respects resident’s rights; respects privacy and right to self-determination of residents.
  • Performs unpleasant tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assist co-workers.
  • Abides by established policies and procedures of facility. Looks for ways to improve facility functioning.
  • Keeps work areas neat and clean; helps maintain appearance of facility.
  • Is able to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
  • Has ability to spend long periods of feet and to ambulate quickly.
  • Is accurate, dependable, neat, and thorough in assigned tasks.
  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly.
  • Ability to utilize and apply basic management skills.

Other requirements:

  • Tuberculosis (TB) certificate as required by the State.
  • First Aid and CPR Certifications as required by the State.
  • Criminal Background check cleared.
  • Fingerprint clearance as required by the State.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or minimum age as outlined in state regulations.
  • Must be able to read, speak and write the English language.
  • State Criminal Background Check and LIC 508 Criminal Record Statement
  • LIC 503 Health Screening Report

Training and experience:

Has familiarity with willingness to work with elderly population. Previous experience preferred medications, but not necessary.

Have completed the required training, testing and/or certification (according to state) for assisting with medications.
